If you are going to do a poll add all not just some

And where did you pull Blondie from, she was Pop not rock

no wonder the list has so many voting other as the second biggest vote!

Re do the pole and see what happens then
as the Doc said the poll is limited to 10 choices.

Yeah, you won't get any arguments out of me there - I always liked 'em.

Sadly we lost Vixen band member, and Guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, in October, 2013, when she
    lost her battle with cancer.

Jan was only 51. Click here to enlarge

They were good musicians, some of them highly trained but I think I've seen their first (and only?) CD in every used CD store I've ever been in selling for just a few dollars.

I saw Joan Jett twice live back in the early 1980s and really liked her first few albums. I first time I saw her was in a small club about 10 feet away from her. Great show. The second time I saw her she started getting really famous because MTV was playing her videos in constant rotation. I was much further away from the stage when I saw her the second time.

You know I've been on sites where the (mostly) male users wrote they rarely even listen to female artists much less female rockers so this thread is very refreshing.

I only saw her once...that I can remember. It was back around 1987-88. She actually did a
free concert here in the town I live in, as part of the 4th of July celebrations. It was arranged,
and presented by the local Rock Radio station here. To be honest, it was so long ago now,
that I can't really even remember anything about the show - other than I went to it.

LOL I wasn't drunk, or anything - just so long ago. We went because it was free...don't get
me wrong, I like Joan Jett, but I was never a superfan, and never was going to be. And by the
time she was doing freebies like our town - it was the late 80's, and clear her career was on a
downward trajectory. (though she had a brief 'comeback' around that time, with her appearance
in the 'Light of Day' movie in 1987, and the hit single from the movie, as well as her album
'Up Your Alley' released in 1988)

I recall those free gigs used to take place right in the heart of town, in a place called 'Courthouse
Square'. It was right in the center of town as I said, and it was a good locale because of the
foot traffic. Many people who were downtown for business, and perhaps not fans of those featured
bands would watch those free gigs. They would always be packed.

The local Rock Radio station at that time, used to do really awesome stuff like that...there was
another occasion where they got Pat Benatar to do it on the 4th, and the Square was packed for
that one...seconds into her set, the heavens opened up, and down came the rain. Ms Benatar fled
immediately, and the show was over before it had even had that chance to begin...we waited ages
for her to come back on stage, but she was long gone...

    @Doc,

Given what happened on an outdoor stage to Curtis Mayfield, I don't blame Pat Benatar or any other performer for skedaddling during a downpour. And with all that water on stage, one could end up like Keith Relf or one of the bassists for Spinal Tap.

It does, however, sound like your city was into getting female rockers for its Independence Day celebrations. Click here to enlarge

Nah, neither do I Mate - Blame her that is. It was a bummer though. The weather up until the
show had been good, and then she comes out on stage, and tries to perform, but it came down
really fast, and then after it had gone, she was already probably on her way out of the state, and
wondering how her career had come to this - playing has-been towns in the Midwest, or in our
    case - never were towns.

No one's mentioned the Go-Gos yet but I always liked them a lot. Some might argue they were more pop than rock but they did write all their own songs and played their own instruments.

Ditto, Shirley Manson rocks! And she was a pretty passable actress on The Sarah Connor Chronicles...

Speaking of the band Garbage does anyone here remember the story where they were gonna sample a Pretenders song on their second album but they were afraid Chrissie Hynde wouldn't let them? Ms. Hynde's response? Shirley Manson has permission to sample my ass if she wants replied Ms. Hynde.
